Activities and Organizations

Student organizations invite you to explore your interests, encourage you to try something new, and challenge you to learn more about yourself and others. Below is a list of student applicant organizations. Take a moment to make contact with the representatives listed, ask questions, get involved, and seek leadership opportunities. If you have an interest not reflected below, why not start your own organization today? Learn more about the student club/organization formation process and requesting “registered” student club/organization status.

  • Biology Club

The GGC Biology Club was founded to give students additional opportunities to learn about biology outside the regular classroom or laboratory setting. Working closely with the Keep Gwinnett Beautiful Organization, the club plans activities where students may learn more about ecology and environmental science.

The club recently held a “Stream Clean” event that was a great experience to observe how the environment can be adversely effected by neglectful behavior. By participating in the stream clean up, club members helped to improve the water quality of a local stream, increase the aesthetic quality of the landscape, and decrease health and safety threats to both wildlife and humans.

  • Psychology Club

The Georgia Gwinnett Psychology Club was established in August of 2006.  Misty Mahan, a junior at Georgia Gwinnett, along with Carrol Lewallen, Aneesah Woods, and Andrea Ide organized the early membership and structure of the organization.

There are three purposes of the GGC Psychology Club.  First, the club exists to create a forum for learning about and participation in psychology as a field.  Second, the club seeks to increase awareness about the careers in the field of psychology.  Thirdly, the club will  encourage involvement in issues related to Psychology through community service activities, discussions, and forums.

In keeping with this mission, last semester, the Psychology Club organized a "Movie Night," and they painted a "Galaxy Room" for the children of the Gwinnett Children's Shelter.  Members of the club also participated in the 2006 Gwinnett Great Days of Service.

  • Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS)

The Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS) was founded in May of 2007 to support the academic and civic achievements of Hispanic students at GGC.  In particular, OLAS serves as a forum to discuss issues relevant to the Latino community in Georgia and across the nation.

Events for the 2007-2008 academic year include the launch of an OLAS website, the publication of a bilingual e-newsletter, voter registration drives, and community outreach projects.  Ongoing OLAS initiatives include a distinguished lecture series program, faculty and student mentorship opportunities across multiple disciplines, higher education information sessions for students and parents, professional and graduate school workshops, and socials.

While the organization focuses on the intellectual and cultural development of Hispanic students on campus, all GGC students with an interest in Latin America and the countries of the Caribbean basin are encouraged to join.  OLAS aims to foster an environment of engaged learning for all students at the College.  Bienvenidos a GGC.
