Student Success Programs at GGC are designed to support and enhance students’ academic, intellectual and social development, and to promote their retention and graduation.

 

We are committed to the principle of promoting successful ongoing academic and life skills to a diverse student population regardless of their academic or life preparation. Student Success Programs value academic excellence, individualized quality service and community outreach.

 

Programs Offered

• The Academic Enhancement Center (AEC) provides support for classroom instruction in the form of free tutoring in most disciplines offered by the College as well as workshops to meet student academic and technological needs.

 

• The First Year of College Seminar (GGC 1000) is required for all incoming first-year students to prepare them with academic and life skills crucial to their success in college and beyond.

 

• Student Success English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are for high school graduates who are non-native speakers of English and lack fluency in academic English.

 

• Student Success courses in English, reading, and math are for high school graduates who score below the collegiate level in these areas.

 

• Student Success Advising supports students enrolled in Student Success ESL, English, reading and math courses.

 

• Regents skills courses prepare students to successfully complete the Regents' test graduation requirement.
