To find books on a given subject, search GIL, the online library catalog.
Perform a Keyword Search when you want to match your term with the same term in a certain field of the database, such as Author, Title, Subject, or Series. You can also attempt to match your term as a Keyword (Title/Subject), which will cause the GIL search engine to look in the Title and Subject fields of the record, or you can try to match your term anywhere in the record by selecting Keyword Anywhere.
Use the Exact Search option if you know the exact term you want to match, such as title, author name, or subject. Also, if you know the beginning part of the term, such as the first word of a title or the first few letters of an author's name, you can use the Exact Search option to find the full form of your term. If you are have trouble finding the material you need using a certain subject term, you can also use Exact Search to find what is called a valid Library of Congress Subject Heading, as well as subheadings for that subject term. For instance, if you attempt to find literary criticism using "Literary Criticism" as a subject term, you will find the the valid Library of Congress Subject Heading for "Literary Criticism" is simply "Criticism".

If you would like to find out if a particular journal is available electronically, use GALILEO's Journals A-Z. Georgia Gwinnett College Library does not subscribe to all of the databases that UGA subscribes to. Therefore, if you are not a UGA student, you may not have access to some of the databases that are presented in the results of a search in the EJL.
New Georgia Encyclopedia (full-text)
Authoritative information on people, places, events, history, and other topics about the state of Georgia, including articles and images on every aspect of the state and includes links to related Internet sites.
Georgia Government Publications (full-text)
Over 18,000 public documents of agencies within the Georgia state government. Coverage encompasses audit reports, budget documents, monographs, newsletters, periodicals and serials from agencies including agriculture, arts, community affairs, courts, education, human resources, industry and trade, labor, legislature, natural resources and recreation. The database contains documents published from 1994 to the present.
Georgia Historic Books (full-text)
This database contains full-text, fully searchable books related to Georgia's history and culture. Most are from the 19th to early 20th century and focus on Georgia history, biography, and literature.
Georgia Historic Newspapers (full-text)
The Georgia Historic Newspaper Database is an outgrowth of the Georgia Newspaper Project managed by the University of Georgia Libraries. Since the early 1950s the UGA Libraries have made a systematic effort to identify and obtain copies of every newspaper ever published in Georgia and to preserve these valuable historical resources on microfilm.
Georgia Legislative Documents (full-text)
The Georgia Legislative Documents provide access to legislative resources. The database currently contains the Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Georgia for the years 1799-1999, with a few gaps.
Civil Unrest in Camilla, Georgia, 1868 (full-text)
Comprised of photostatic copies from the Freedman's Bureau records held by the National Archives, consists of letters, affidavits, reports and a newspaper clipping relating to a violent episode in Camilla, Georgia.
The Cornelius C. Platter Civil War Diary, 1864 - 1865 (full-text)
Platter's diary details Sherman's march through Georgia from Rome to Savannah and the march north through the Carolinas. He gives dates, times, and lengths of marches and describes the weather, locale, scenery, and food as well as orders, rumors, positions, troop morale, and administrative duties. The diary also includes a description of the burning of Columbia, South Carolina, the news of the Confederate surrender, and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
Cyrus F. Jenkins Civil War Diary, 1861-1862 (full-text)
Chronicles Cyrus Franklin Jenkins' experiences as an enlisted man in the Meriwether Volunteers, Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry Regiment, during the first year of the war, June 1861 to March 1862.
Digital Library of Georgia (full-text)

Online version of the diary of Jimmy Carter, former Governor of Georgia from 1971-1975 and the Thirty-Ninth President of the United States from 1977-1981. The diary is the official log of the president's activities during his administration.

correspondence from Robert Toombs to his wife, Julia Ann DuBose Toombs in Georgia and Paris from 1850-1867. The correspondence generally discusses current events; his land holdings in South Georgia, Alabama, and Texas; people; other soldiers; and his wish to be with his wife and family.
Robert E. Williams Photographic Collection: African-Americans in the Augusta Vicinity, c. 1872-1989 (full-text) Consists of 86 Glass plate negatives and positive prints of African-Americans in the Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia area.

Native American Documents (full-text)
This database contains approximately 2,000 documents and images relating to the Native American population of the Southeastern United States. The documents are comprised of letters, legal proceedings, military orders, financial papers, and archaeological images relating to Native Americans in the Southeast.
Academic Search Premier (full-text) provides abstracts and indexing for over 3,800 publications, as well as full text for over 3,200 scholarly journals and general magazines. Coverage: 1984 – present.
Research Library (full-text) is a multidisciplinary database that covers more than 1,600 publications. Coverage: 1986-present (citations and abstracts); 1991-present (full text for selected publications).
netLibrary (full-text electronic books)
netLibrary provides access to over 15,000 electronic books (eBooks), including reference books, scholarly monographs, publications of many university presses, and consumer books that have been converted into digital format. It is possible to perform full-text searches of a single eBook, search thousands of volumes simultaneously, browse topic categories, or read eBooks directly online. Titles may be checked out for on-screen viewing for four hours. NOTE: Each individual user must create a personal user name and password.

Pay attention to certain details:
- Who created the site?
- Are their credentials made available?
- When was the site last updated?
- What is the purpose of the site?
- Is the site trying to sell you something or convince you of something?
