To find books on a given subject, search GIL, the online library catalog.
Perform a Keyword Search when you want to match your term with the same term in a certain field of the database, such as Author, Title, Subject, or Series. You can also attempt to match your term as a Keyword (Title/Subject), which will cause the GIL search engine to look in the Title and Subject fields of the record, or you can try to match your term anywhere in the record by selecting Keyword Anywhere.
Use the Exact Search option if you know the exact term you want to match, such as title, author name, or subject. Also, if you know the beginning part of the term, such as the first word of a title or the first few letters of an author's name, you can use the Exact Search option to find the full form of your term. If you are have trouble finding the material you need using a certain subject term, you can also use Exact Search to find what is called a valid Library of Congress Subject Heading, as well as subheadings for that subject term. For instance, if you attempt to find literary criticism using "Literary Criticism" as a subject term, you will find the the valid Library of Congress Subject Heading for "Literary Criticism" is simply "Criticism".

If you would like to find out if a particular journal is available electronically, use GALILEO's Journals A-Z. Georgia Gwinnett College Library does not subscribe to all of the databases that UGA subscribes to. Therefore, if you are not a UGA student, you may not have access to some of the databases that are presented in the results of a search in the EJL.
Religion & Philosophy Collection (full-text)
This database provides material from more than 243 full-text journals. It covers topics in spiritual, ethical, philosophical, cultural, and historical aspects of the world's major religions.
Original Sources (full-text)
A comprehensive compilation of more than 350,000 primary source documents, complete books, and authentic images.
JSTOR (full-text) JSTOR provides electronic access to back issues of core journal titles in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
Project Muse (full-text)
Project Muse provides online access to the full-text of over 100 scholarly journals in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and mathematics.
Academic Search Premier (full-text) provides abstracts and indexing for over 3,800 publications, as well as full text for over 3,200 scholarly journals and general magazines. Coverage: 1984 – present.
Research Library (full-text) is a multidisciplinary database that covers more than 1,600 publications. Coverage: 1986-present (citations and abstracts); 1991-present (full text for selected publications).

netLibrary (full-text electronic books)
netLibrary provides access to over 15,000 electronic books (eBooks), including reference books, scholarly monographs, publications of many university presses, and consumer books that have been converted into digital format. It is possible to perform full-text searches of a single eBook, search thousands of volumes simultaneously, browse topic categories, or read eBooks directly online. Titles may be checked out for on-screen viewing for four hours. NOTE: Each individual user must create a personal user name and password.

This database presents both sides of arguments on controversial topics.
The Bible in English (full-text)
The Bible in English database contains twenty-one versions of the Bible. In addition to the twelve complete Bibles, there are five New Testament works, two Gospel works and William Tyndale's New Testament, Pentateuch and Jonah translations. The complete English text of each edition is included, with all prefatory matter, notes, running heads and glossaries.

Use caution when selecting web sites to use for research purposes. Search engines such as Google can provide access to web sites relevant to your research, but it is necessary to investigate the authoritativeness of your search results.
Pay attention to certain details:
- Who created the site?
- Are their credentials made available?
- When was the site last updated?
- What is the purpose of the site?
- Is the site trying to sell you something or convince you of something?

- African Religion on the Internet is part of Stanford University’s “Africa South of the Sahara” website and has sections on traditional religion, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and more.
- BuddhaNet is a nonprofit organisation offering its services to all Buddhist traditions. It aims to facilitate a significant Buddhist presence in the realm of computer communications technology, applying this technology to help make the Buddha's teachings freely available to all.
- Catholic Encyclopedia is the online version of the 1913 edition.
- Facets of Religion is another collection of links to a wide variety of websites on religious topics.
- Jewish Encyclopedia online is the 1906 edition.
- Religious Studies Electronic Journals has a long list of journals that can be accessed online. Most are full text; some only allow access to the table of contents.
- Virtual Religion Index from Rutgers University provides links to web pages on a wide range of religious topics.

- Internet Sacred Text Archive provides scriptures and commentaries from most of the world’s faiths.
- The Bible – Revised Standard Version; The Holy Qur'an; and The Book of Mormon are provided online by the University of Michigan.

- American Academy of Religion The American Academy of Religion's mission is to promote reflection through excellence in scholarship and teaching in the field of religion. The Academy is dedicated to furthering knowledge of religion and religious institutions in all their forms and manifestations.
- International Association for the History of Religions The IAHR serves to promote the academic study of religions through the international collaboration of all scholars whose research has a bearing on the subject.
- North American Association for the Study of Religion The NAASR was formed in 1985 to encourage the historical, comparative, structural, theoretical and cognitive approaches to the study of religion among North American scholars; to represent North American scholars of religion at the international level; and to sustain communication between North American scholars and their international colleagues engaged in the study of religion.
- Society for the Scientific Study of Religion The Society for the Scientific Study of Religion was founded in 1949 by scholars in religion and social science in order to stimulate and communicate significant scientific research on religious institutions and religious experience. Scholars from all fields of study who are interested in the scientific exploration of religion are invited to join the Society.

- Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a good general source of information on many topics in philosophy.
- Philosophy Resources on the Internet includes over 16,000 categorized links to philosophy resources on the Internet.
- Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy has more depth than the above site but many of the topics listed in its index are not yet covered.
- WWW Virtual Library: Philosophy Directory of philosophy resources on the web, maintained by the University of Bristol
Philosophy Associations
- American Philosophical Association has Newsletters on its site.
- International Society for Environmental Ethics is an offshoot of the APA and also puts Newsletters on its site.
